Prepare for Moving Day


Here are some valuable tips for you to consider before you prepare for a moving day:

  • Notify post office of change of address
  • Notify utilities when to discontinue service
  • Make arrangements in advance for all your services at your new home
  • Make all moving arrangements in advance so that you have plenty of time to readjust
  • If moving in cold whether, articles subject to freezing should not be shipped via moving van
  • Carry with you currency, jewelry and valuable papers. Movers will not accept responsibility for articles of extraordinary value
  • Arrange for all appliances to be disconnected before moving
  • Be sure to notify the Ministry of Transportation of your change of address
  • Notify your school authorities so they may forward your children’s records to their new school
  • Wherever possible, try to move at times other than at the beginning and end of the month, when all movers are at their busiest
  • Have the utility companies read your meters
  • Notify your newspaper and magazine publishers about your new address
  • Do not overload drawers when packing items in dressers, etc.
  • Liquids in bottles should have tops securely fastened
  • Use sturdy containers for packing, preferably with lids
  • Towels and pillows may be packed in dresser drawers
  • Large mirrors, glass table tops and valuable paintings should be crated by the movers
  • Cartons should weigh no more than 50-60 lbs.
  • All cartons should be closed securely with tape, which can be supplied by us for your convenience
  • “Fragile” stickers on cartons, where appropriate are a priority
  • Do not pack food, medicines and cleaning/ washing ingredients in the same carton
  • Do not leave trays, etc. loose in the refrigerator or stove
  • For easy identification mark boxes not only on top but also on the side
  • If you do packing on your own, pack in advance to avoid the last minute rush and strain
  • Wardrobes are available to hang your suites and dresses full length, as in your closet, while in transit
  • Dispose of any oily mops or rugs
  • Do not roll mattresses. Leave these items to the movers
  • Discuss the moving of your freezer and its content with our representative
  • Defrost your refrigerator the day before moving
  • Make sure to drain items such items such as outboard motors and lawn mowers
